Lazy Livin' in Luang Prabang

Interesting juxtaposition
Luang Prabang is a nice place to chill out (as is most of Laos), enjoy some good food, and take the days at your leisure. As opposed to three years ago, there is now an ATM, the night market has spread down onto side-streets, and there is definitely a noticeable increase in tourists, but all-in-all it is still a very enjoyable city, and one cannot deny how these changes are helping the local people and their economy.
The first day we arrived, we made our way straight to the same guesthouse we had stayed at before--Vansanna Guesthouse. After we walked through the front gates, the woman who ran the establishment immediately said, "You have been here before?" We told here that we had a few years back and she told us that she had recognized us because of Greg's face. Again, that friendly, warm, loving face of his...
Since we had done a good amount of sight-seeing on our last visit, we opted to take some walks and venture to some sights on the outskirts that we hadn't seen before. We went to Tad-Si waterfall which was a multi level cascading waterfall that poured through numerous rocks and trees. There were elephants there that one could opt to bathe in the falls, but being that we all felt a little sorry for the chained giants (although they did seem to be loved in a captive kind of way), we decided to buy some cheap bananas to give them as a treat. The falls were stronger than they looked as we schlepped our way amidst them, and then jumped into the snake infested waters below...there was only one snake, but snake-infested sounds more exotic and exciting.
The second water-fall, Kuang-Si, was one that we had visited before, but being that this was the wet season, the water was much too "high" for us to trek around or even go for a swim.
Back in Luang Prabang, Greggers got his hair-cut. You can see how hip and fresh he looks in our photo gallery. We also purchased a much longed-for, hand stitched, duvet cover that some of you back home might have heard the two of us pining for. Well, we got it! We were very pleased.
So basically we took it easy, consumed a variety of tasty delicacies, and oh yes, we ran into those two crazy British girls (Abi and Rachel) in the middle of the street one evening. A welcomed reunion. After a few days in Luang Prabang, we were on our way to Vang Vieng for some inner-tubing down the Nam Sang. According to the Lonely Planet, tubing in Vang Vieng is a right-of-passage for any backpacker trekking on the Southeast Asia Circuit.
