About theculinarydoorstep
This is me!
Ever since the day as a young 5 year old kneeling on a stool watching my mum cook, food has been an integral part of my life. As someone who loves to travel and explore new cultures, I head straight for the local street food. During my travels food has provided countless positive memories, such as eating Trout by the shores of Lake Ohrid in Macedonia with friends.
But food for me means a lot more than travelling and experiencing tasty dishes. Food is a powerfully unifying tool that brings people together to reach common ground. This is what I passionately believe in. As a project coordinator for an NGO called Food Frontiers, we seek to use food as a means for cross-cultural dialogue between fractured communities. Food can build bridges, even in the home between family members. Sharing a meal has an uplifting and reconciliatory effect. As Yotam Ottolenghi once said – “Food can bring people together in a way nothing else could”.
I am also driven in learning about the culinary heritage of a community, region and nation. Food is about identity
I wouldn’t swap my foodie world for anything else. Cooking everyday is therapeutic for me, and seeing the smiles on all the faces around the table is the best feeling. I am a likeable individual who craves new culinary discoveries and adventures. There is nothing I don’t eat!
Food is an integral part of our lives, more than we think. Eating is a story, and I want to share these.
