We did it!  We saved our money, paid off our debt, sold our condo, one car and (almost) all of our belongings and found someone (my parents) to care for our cats for the next 7 months.  It was no easy feat!  So much more work went into this "Trip of a Lifetime" than I had ever anticipated or could have imagined.  Ready or not we're leaving next Friday!

I quit my job and Jon is on sabbatical from his job in the tech world (please don’t ask me to explain his job).

Not willing to wait for retirement to start seriously traveling, we’re getting this party started – NOW!  We’re young, healthy, and fit (truth be told - I’m eating ice cream as I type this) what better time to travel!

We leave June 2nd and start in Italy on our recumbent bikes.  We’ll work our way north through

France, Germany, the UK and hopefully make sweeps through Switzerland, and Denmark.  Can we do all of this in 3 months – who knows!

At the end of August we’ll head to Thailand, Cambodia, South Korea, Singapore and end the year in New Zealand.  We hope to stretch our dollar (Euro, Baht, Won…) by doing volunteer work via the WWOOF (Willing Workers of Organic Farms) organization to offset the cost of room and board, hang with the locals and hopefully learn something new or possibly impart some knowledge or our own!

When you get a better ideal of the New Zealand part, Johnna and I will be interested in meeting up with you. We wish safe travels to you both and we hope to see you somewhere before the end of your adventure.

Yup. I'm turning green with envy. You may just get me motivated to start saving my pennies so I can go see what's beyond the horizon again.

Hope you guys have a safe and eventful adventure. I didn't know you were leaving this soon. Sherry, I sent you a birthday card, but you probably didn't receive it before you left. So let me say "Happy Birthday". I was thinking about one last "Eastside get together before your trip. Oh well. I'll follow your journey on the web site. When you return we'll get together for a big return bash and welcome home gathering. Be safe. Ken

Wow Jon,Am I impressed or what??? I've always known your family to be very active but I'm amazed you are doing this trip on bicycles. That is just awesome! I certainly wish you the best!
Your Mom's Dad and my Dad were brothers. I'm Peggy Miller and my Dad was Fred Jenkins. You've been to my house but were very young so I don't know if you even remember me or not. I live in Gallatin, Tn.
