Pictures and Stories from our Time in Thailand

Two Months in Thailand

Well, we FINALLY have the internet on again at home. It only took 5 weeks of phone calls, emails and constant nagging!

Life in the land of smiles is going along nicely! Mike is in China for work for two weeks. His first long trip since we arrived here. So Im flying solo for a bit. We had a great day last week for the Grand Opening of the Diab factory (Mike`s work). It was a HUGE event to officially open the factory and a chance for the compnay to swish it up with the neighbours, the bank, customs and their clients. I went along for the day to show support and to check out the big event. There were elephants there to welcome the guests. Yep, thats right welcoming elephants with little coats on with the Diab logo. There was a mother and a baby. When I arrived they both came trotting over, making some strange sound kind of like a dog being run-over, the baby caught me completely off-guard and stuck its trunk in my face so I could touch it. I was freaking out and Mike was yelling at me to pat it because there was a photographer there to `capture the moments`. Not looking forward to that photo! There were `Beautiful Thai Girls` to pin flowers on us and do a happy dance. There were flashing lights, music, an M.C and I think there was even a smoke machine. The mayor of the district came to officially welcome everyone and in all it was a rather amusing day!

Mike got his BBQ and is extremely pleased with it. A little pricey but it has a lid, 3 burners and a wok burner on the side. Mike did the usual huge feast the day after we got it, running out of gas just as the meat cooked. We asked the guy who sold it us how we go about getting the bottle filled and he told us to get the maid to do it. As we dont have a maid (still waiting!) we are not too sure how to get it filled and have not been able to have another BBQ since! Mike has also realised he has been holding back his green thumb. We went to a plant nursery the other day and Mike picked out heaps of big green tropical plants to fill our front courtyard with. Trying to get into our house now is more like trekking through the Amazon. The lady at the plant shop didnt speak a lot of english so we are not too sure if we have to water them or do anything at all. Mike`s sticking to the idea that there is no one in the jungle watering the plants, so why should we.

I had a second interview with the feed company yesterday. I should find out by the end of the month if I have the job. We thought the position was in the city but its actually on the other side of Bangkok to where we are living which makes things a little harder. But the job sounds really great, so fingers still crossed.

The rain has started to pick up here and we have been having regular storms. The storms are HUGE, so much rain falls you can barely see a few metres in front, the lighting is really bright and loud and the thunder seems to shake everything! They normally only last maybe ten or fifteen minutes but the cable tv stops working and the power goes on and off! Best to staty indoors at these times!

I will pop up some photos for everyone to check out. Its been a little while since I put any up! Hope everyone is well and we both miss you all.

Until next time....
