The proximity of coal mining to the main beach of the city scares away a lot of tourist but leaves not much choice for locals.

City of Wollongong is situated on a pristine stretch of coastline just one hour drive south of Sydney. And though surf beaches and national parks surrounding the area attract many tourists, local community still mainly depends on its heavy industry including coal mining for bringing income into the families.

Jetty at Bass Point Quarry is a constant reminder of the fact that heavy industry took a permanent residency in this beautiful area.
