A day spent outside should start with a hearty breakfast. Nothing quite like German brot und eggs (und yoghurt, und fruit, und cheese) to get you going.

Today's adventure began early with the view to beat the multitudes of tourists (hahaha) who flock in to town by the bus load. Not an easy feat. We climbed the wall! A narrow and very steep staircase took us up to what was once the best protection for the town from marauding hoards. In surprisingly good condition for a medieval sructure which must have many times been under attack. The vistas in all directions are sublime. The orange rooftops weathered by time, I'm sure have many tales to tell. The early morning is relatively quiet on the wall and the beauty of seeing the town approach the day is not to be forgotten soon.

The faith of the early people of Rothenberg must have played a full part in their lives, For a relatively small town there are so many churches dating back to the 12th & 13th centuries. From the vast and spectacular St Jakobs that we visited yesterday to St Leopolds that we passed today sitting on the edge of the town's protective wall.

I've developed something of a fascination for doors. This town has some of the most beautiful doorways and some of the simplest which are also incredibly lovely.

As with any walk through this Christmas haven all roads lead to the Christmas markets...AGAIN! Before we stopped for another very long German sausage for Chris and waffle for me, washed down with a tasty warm shared gluhwein, we determined to climb the town's bell tower. The climb? Very high, winding, very narrow, very steep. Oh but from the top you could see to the edge of the world that is Rothenberg ob der Tauber and beyond.
