    Most of the Rock’s upper area is covered by a nature reserve and around 250 Barbary macaques call it home. Views[177] These animals are semi-wild and being the last population of such living in Europe. But more of their species are found in Morocco and Algeria. Views[213] The monkeys have been looked after by the Gibraltar Ornithological and Natural History Society and medical care is provided by the Gibraltar Veterinary Clinic. Every day they get a fresh water, vegetables, fruit and seeds as supplement to natural food resources. For other people it is forbidden by law to feed the macaques. Living there for some centuries already, they have adapted to coexist with humans.
