Danang

We arrived in Danang and immediately booked our hostel through the local office who organised all our bus transfers.  We arranged for the hostel to collect us.... little did we know that this would mean that we would be transported on the back of a bike, with our backpacks.  It involved a balancing trick.

My driver was very keen on getting me to go see his home, his business and wanted to give me a personalised tour of Danang.  I landed up with his business card and had to promise that if I needed anything I would give him a call.

We took a walk, Danang was clearly not a tourist hot spot, we were creating quite a stir being there.  We walked the streets a bit before heading to find a meal.  Dinner was a hot pot of sorts and Tiger beer.  We cooked our own meat and rolled it into rice paper with some vegetables.  It was really good.  Halfway during the meal, a local with very dirty hands came over and handed me a quarter grapefruit.  I wasn't so keen to eat it after seeing the state of his hands, but it caused a great amount of hilarity at the time.  I hid it in my handbag so that it looked like I had eaten it.

After dinner, we went to find some coffee.  The owner of the coffee shop was very keen to talk to us, but one of his drunk friends just wouldn't leave us alone and eventually we decided to leave.

Next morning, was bike hire day again.  Lauren was driving this time.  We headed towards China Beach, stopping for breakfast along the way.  Though, they were clearly unprepared for a breakfast and the owner jumped on a bike to go and buy some eggs.

Our first stop was China Beach, made famous for the American series.  After a quick walk on the beach, it was back onto the bikes for a trip to Marble Mountain.  I was quite beautiful, tunnels, darkly lit caves littered with buddha statues.  My favourite was a blue pagoda, surrounded by a water feature and sayings translated directly into english, which made no sense whatsoever.

After Marble Mountain, we tried to find the Mickey Mouse ears of the peninsula.  We really struggled and eventually gave up.  However, worth mentioning was Lauren's very skillful swerve from a truck which decided to U-Turn near us.  It was quite a scary experi
