Wednesday 9/28 730pm Sora, Italia
I just had to say goodbye to Emma, who is my first Aussie friend. I mean, I've only known her for two weeks, but we became really close and I was such a baby when I said goodbye lol. She leaves tomorrow morning at like 7am, so before I walk to the farm. I gave her a tin ornament that Mom and I bought at the market in San Antonio over the summer and I think she was really excited, especially since her next trip over next summer will be to Central America, California, New York, and TEXAS. I also got to talk to Holly today and it's always nice to hear about her crazy life, especially since I think it's gotten crazier since I left.
Today was an interesting day, I mean, mostly normal, but just interesting. Guiseppe and the wild boys killed a pig, so it was butchering day, which means nothing unless you are helping, which I opt out of every time. For the first 30 minutes of work I simply folded sheets, but then Maria found me hiding upstairs and told me to clean the outdoor kitchen, which only means one thing: pick the rotten tomatoes out of the good ones in the bin in the other kitchen. The volunteers keep the outside kitchen spotless, but there is always a stench coming from the rotting tomatoes and when Maria tells you to clean it, that's really all she means. So I spent a good hour doing that, and the surprise with that was the maggots living at the bottom of the bin... so I found a new bin and carefully cleaned all the good tomatoes and fed the maggot ones to the piggies. Then, Maria had me cutting lettuce for the lunch I wasn't going to eat. At 11am, I stopped to join the wild boys in some gelato eating, which I ended up mixing the gelato with figs and cookies (biscuits, as Gavin calls them lol). Then, I snuck upstairs to facebook and nap, and apparently for the next 2 hours, Maria was beside herself because she couldn't find me... I don't think anyone has told her I started living at the Mogli because she still thinks I need to help prepare lunch... the lunch I'm not eating... Then for the next few hours, Emma, Bowen, and I lounged upstairs (I'm really not supposed to be up there since I live at the Mogli, but no one but the girls go in there and there are 5 beds and only 2 girls so I've made a bed mine for now). Then I had to say goodbye to Emma :(. But then I took a shower, so now I'm sad, but semi-clean.
I'm pretty sure everyone misses me at the farm because Antonello has asked me to return on Saturday when Bowen leaves, and the only reasons I think I might are because A. I miss seeing Linda and Vera... B. I don't want Gavin to be by himself... and C. Maria hates when I sing and dance and I like singing and dancing so it's fun to make her frustrated lol. The last one was a joke. And also, it's supposed to get cold soon, and while I bought a nice little sleeping bag, I might just use it inside. Going back will mean more work, but Gavin and I have a lot of fun and I miss hanging out with him. The "wild boys" at the Mogli are just kind of uncivilized and Gavin has perfect manners so as much fun as going completely crazy has been, I think it will soon be time to join human beings again.
PS: Remember that time I wrote about what I was eating in Italia? Today I ate cookies (biscuits), gelato, nutella, figs, crackers, cheese, a pomagranete, and we are having hamburgers for dinner. A 180 from last week lol. And I think cleaning out the rotten tomatoes has made me hate tomatoes again... what a shame.
