My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Thailand | Monday, January 7, 2013 | 5 photos

I’m Lauren, a forever nomad. I have a lot of aspirations for my life, but now I revel in the truth of what I want to become; a professional. In the last few years I’ve been honing my craft as a storyteller, through food culture writing and photography. Observing people in their natural habitat, watching them till the land, harvest and later consume, sell it locally or globally. What I hope to accomplish from my success as a photo/gastronomy journalist, is to capture the legacy of a people, a tribe, a farming community - not only to cherish but to celebrate the daily life of our world’s ecosystem. It is my wish that those seeing my work will be inspired to seek out in helping these cultures, even saving them from extinction. Most likely, to assist in taking a step backwards in “progress,” I realize that I must also be willing to catch the harsh and negative realities facing the human race, the perils of our actions.

I want to circumnavigate the world. I want to share; so that the voice of others is heard, those without resources can thrive.

But first, I must learn, and I am open and willing to accept all criticisms, lessons, anecdotes, friendships and tears along the way.

About sobremesainspain

Do you ponder where your cup of coffee comes from? How it got to you, or how many miles it traveled? Do you imagine the people, villages or the color of the soil behind your 'Christmas blend'? I wanted to learn more about my consumption practices and set out to discover the truths behind a single estate coffee plantation, Akha Ama in Thailand.
