G’day Mate! My name is Nats, but my nickname is Red. Red, because I’m an exotic redhead, covered from head-to-toe in freckles, and Red because I never go anywhere without my camera, so my friends and family joke that I’m ‘ever-ready’ for every shot, for every situation.

If Red is my nickname, Adventure is my middle name! By age 24, I travelled solo to 27 different countries in order to explore the stories of people and places of different cultures. I happily live out of a backpack, trek for days on end, endure all kinds of weather, survive on minimal food and work like a trogon without being paid a cent, just to be able to capture a unique moment in time.

To me, photography is not just a hobby, or a career. It is the pure, undiluted oxygen that speaks life into my soul! There is no greater adventure for me than to capture the untold stories of people and places! It is like holding the universe in the palm of my hand!

What a privilege and honour it would be to travel on assignment with you to South Africa! I’ve always been entranced by the majesty of magnificent landscapes, such as Kruger National Park, and the thrill of learning how to shoot Africa’s exotic wild animals and landscapes with you, would be divine indeed!

I yearn to be a better photographer, to learn how to use exposure to enhance the story, and to be mentored to my full potential. I know full well the meaning of learning, patience, focus and hard work…I was a Principal by age 25! I’m so dedicated to improving my photography, that I’ve resigned specifically so I can enhance my travel photography in 2012. Winning this scholarship would simply be a perfect start!
