Farida.... A single mother supporting her child invited my two friends and I for lunch in her home, she didn’t have much food but insisted on welcoming us to her stories and her life. For a few hours we were blessed with her laughter, positive outlook and awareness of what is important to her amidst a village that holds great poverty. For me, this image represents everything beautiful in the human spirit.

A tin for change...

This image I hold dear to my heart and have framed and printed above my bed. The Hampi area had been recorded by Portuguese traders in the 16th century as a place hustling and bustling with life, food and even jewels. Nowadays, I visited to find many a homeless man, each day, bearing just the clothes on his back and a tin for change.

Grace and Poise...

When I passed this girl I had an initial desire to look over my shoulder for someone photographing her. Her poise and grace was nothing short of a trained professional and yet she sat, engaged in nothing but the thoughts of her own reality. Was she one of the luckier ones? The Karnataka region is home to thousands of Devadasi women. A religious custom that originally gave Devadasi women status and yet over the centuries has deteriorated to a life of prostitution and the fear of HIV. For many, children as young as 12 are introduced to the industry in order to support their family.
