Borsec, Romania. Photo scholarship 2010

Romania | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 5 photos

The photos were taken in 2006. Since then I have become a more skilled photographer and use better equipment and techniques but I selected those images because I fill the story of the place is really strong.
The village of Borsec has a link to my family’s history which is what led me there. All I knew was that it used to be a resort and a place for convalescence in the early 20th century. I had no idea what I was going to discover. I spent three full days shooting. Selecting only 5 images was difficult.
The experience for the uninformed visitor is one of mystery and wonderment:
What happened here? Why are all those examples of beautiful building craftsmanship left to disintegrate slowly? In the center of a living village there is what looks like a semi ghost town without any visible explanation around.

I am a traveler and explorer by vocation. Photography is an integral part of my exploration. It is my way of documenting and sharing my discoveries. It also fulfils some inner need to record my own point of view. Certain places can actually get me in a state of “photographic trip”.
This is what I fill that I do better than everything else. About ten years ago I began to nurture the idea of becoming a professional photographer. I keep pursuing my goal in spite of many setbacks and a mental health condition I have been living with for 20 years. This year I took a major step. I moved to Vancouver so I can take advanced photo courses. I am also preparing to apply for a program that will teach me the business and marketing side of being self-employed. Becoming a photographer begins to seem real. Traveling alongside a working photographer? This IS real

Thank you for creating this opportunity
