Temples of Angkor- Day 3

Baphuon, like many temples, was taken apart when it was found by archaeologists, in order to be put back together in a fully restored manner. Except then the Khmer Rouge happened and they destroyed all the archaeologists' records! Meaning this temple was doomed to just be piles of stones like you see here. It wasn't until a LOT of funding & research could be devoted to this temple that they could start trying to piece it back together. They started in 2008 and still have a long way to go but the amount they've restored so far is amazing. That's why this is called the World's Largest Jigsaw Puzzle.
