We take an overnight trip to the area Northwest of Toulouse - about 2 1/2 hours from our home exchange. We follow a back road along the Vezere River. This area fascinated us when we read about it, as there are relics of the second ice age - the caves and cliff dwellings of Paleolithic cavemen - juxtaposed with lovely 16th-17th century french villages.
We started and ended in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac and just followed the back road along the river stopping at various cliff relics, villages and finally the Lascaux Caves.
We stayed overnight at the aptly named Hotel Cro-Magnon - once we saw the name we said we have to stay here. The hotel is built into the ancient cliffs with stone walls in the hallways. See photos.
