Didn't really get off to an early start (10:00am) but made good progress to the one and only lock of the journey. While I was there I spotted a rowing boat coming towards the lock so I waited for them to get in the lock. The boat was one of them modern, quite tippy jobs with really long oars and eight people in it. They took my Kayak through the lock and I walked round to the inset point. Back in the water I managed to keep up with them for some time. Made my own lunch by the banks of the river and watched an enormous fish, possibly a carp feed.
When I got to Stausacker where they have a lovely abbey and supposedly a camping ground I discovered to my amazement that my trusty river guide had let me down and that the advertised tent place is no longer there. So I carried on further down the river and was rewarded with the most spectacular scenery to date. I passed through canyons and dark forests. Unfortunately, just as I was flying through there with the very strong current a storm developed and it became impossible to take pictures.
I had already done well over 40ks when it became apparent that there was no other place for the night. Luckily I found a quiet bay just opposite the Kehlheim Saal harbour where I made camp. The shore was a bit steep and so I kept slipping down to the bottom of the tent all night...
