Day 3 Dillingen - Donauwörth (33kms)

GERMANY | Wednesday, 11 June 2008 | Views [359]

The blisters on my right hand have almost disappeared and I feel good and strong, especially after last nights storms and rain which did disturb me only very little. However, it is safe to say - the tent is water and windproof and the lightning and thunder were spectacular! The current is finally picking up a little but still slowing to 0 kms just before the next weir and lock. Three locks today. Every time I'm finding people to open the front gate for me which means I don't have to climb down 6 meters down the lock into my boat but can sit there and paddle around until the huge iron gate opens like the gate to Mordor.

On average it takes me 7.5 minutes to paddle one kilometer.

Things worth mentioning:

Don't trust any directions given.

The landscape is changing and it is getting very beautiful.

An umbrella acted as a sail today and carried me 2kms.

Toppit's ziploc plastic bags for freezing food are my strongest assets having turned them into dry bags. I'm also carrying 6 Ortlieb drybags.

No comparison in price though.

Donauwörth's Canoe club is situated in a very picturesque spot, including waterfall, two kilometers up the Wörnitz . However, the people of Donauwörth are oblivious to both these facts.

Donauwörth is beautiful too.

I had pizza and lots of ice-cream today.

Moral is up,up,up......
