This elderly woman sits in a small hut in the hills of a local Chang Mai village making traditional hill-tribe crafts and jewelry to sell to tourists.

First introduced by Chinese migrants in the late 1940's, tea plantations are now widespread throughout the hills around Chiang Mai.

Young locals are often intrigued (and sometimes shy) when trekkers first enter their village. It does not take long though until they are showing you their hand make slingshots or playing games with you.
