Within Polish nationalism rests strong Catholic belief, here shown by the crucifix held at the end of a long Polish flag. The symbol on the neighbouring flag stands for ‘Powstanie Warszawskie’ or ‘Warsaw Uprising’. In 1944 the citizens of Warsaw rose up to fight against their Nazi occupiers and so this symbol represents the pride Poland has for keeping their nation independent.
