'The Kickboxing Youth of Phuket'

I am Sarah Doherty, an 18 yr old from Sydney and graduate from CATC Design School in February, 2013. I got my first camera when I was eight for Christmas and I remember finishing the film before the lunch began.
I studied photography for my HSC, and this is when I decided my future career. Since beginning my course I have been learning the creative potential of the camera. Im excited by my studies and begun to develop my own style.
Travelling the world and photographing people of different cultures would be a dream. I have a fascination with National Geographic and immerse myself in the contents.
I recently travelled to Phuket and was able to capture children in action at a Kickboxing competition in Bangla Stadium, Patong. The age of the children and the aggressive adults taking bets was confronting. The roar of the crowd, the thud of punches and kicks, made the atmosphere intense. The whole experience was mind blowing, it opened my eyes to a different culture and my new found love of social documentary photography.
I know travelling to Oman with Jason Edwards would be the opportunity of a lifetime. I will bring my enthusiasm, determination and cherish the mentoring process.
