Trip Stats - 1/3 of the way!

VIETNAM | Tuesday, 4 March 2008 | Views [1238] | Comments [3]

Seeing as we're now four months into our trip we thought we'd do a bit of quantitative analysis on our experiences So far and have spent our spare afternoon at the Chinese border putting together a few trip stats...

Countries we've been to = 7

Flights taken = 9

Air miles accumulated = 8500

Years we will need to cycle for to offset all this carbon guilt = 236

Favourite journeys so far:

1. Japanese bullet train to Hiroshima

2. Slow boat down the Mekong river

3. Round the Moscow circle line looking at the bling stations and furry people (people in furs that is!)

Funniest creature moment - our polite little Indian mouse cleaning his whiskers after enjoying some leftovers in our 1st class train couchette

Cheesy fridge magnets now in our collection = 10

Percentage of collection still intact with magnet = 50% (lesson learnt - don't try to post magnets home - customs don't like them!)

Books read so far = 15 (Sarah), 10 (Phil "but they had loads more words in them!")

Best value for money places so far:

1. Chiang Mai, Thailand

2. Vang Vieng, Laos

3. Japan (not cheap, but not as bad as we thought and worth every penny)

Times Phil has banged his head on things that are just too low in Asia - too many to count!

Number of cigarettes Sarah has smoked since Jan 1st = 0

Increase in Sarah's vented steam (mostly aimed at useless bus drivers) since Jan 1st = 300%

Games of scrabble completed = 20 (current score S12/P8)

Our favourite meals so far:

1. Seafood lunch, floating in Halong Bay

2. Our thai cookery course beauties, on the farm near Chiang Mai

3. Ginormous buffet in Corbett National Park, India (if we forget about the after-effects...)

to be continued!...

Typo, clearly. I meant jealous. Don't worry - the English language hasn't developed strange new words in your absence....

Sarah, brave and strong Sarah, keep up that smoke-free personal environment! I can tell you from personal experience that waiting until the heart attack can be waiting far too long (and I wasn't doing the aortic aneurysm any favours with tobacco either). I hope you've been able to stick with it. It does get easier for most people in time, and if you're lucky like I am, you'll wake up one day and find the thought of a cigarette disgusting.
