    The way to the indigenous communities is long and exhausting, hot and difficult. The vegetation goes from non-existant to overwhelming in every turn of the dusty trail. This is, quite clearly, one of the overwhelming stretches. by: santavictoriaeste Views[325] Upon arrival at one of the communities, you realize that living in the same country doesn't really matter here. This is a whole new world, and you're not from it. All eyes are on you. You could just as well be from outer space. Candy, however, is a universal language. Kids love lollipops, but we will not hand them out again after realizing that dental cavities could never be treated here. The Spider-man t-shirt talks not only about globalization. It's also saying 'these clothes have come from charity'. by: santavictoriaeste Views[367] The Pilcomayo river, which separates Argentina from Bolivia and Paraguay, should run vigorously through this very spot. Instead, it's just a tiny stream to the left during most of the year, leaving behind this desert wasteland haunted by dirt storms. The surreal feel of the place is completed by the seemingly identical girls and their furiously red skirts. As with all the indigenous women of the region, talking to them only made them giggle as a result of shyness. With time and patience, they'll reveal a huge, rich world of hopes buried deep within them. by: santavictoriaeste Views[1267] A lovely Wichi family let us into their lives for a whole afternoon. Their two young boys' curiosity and warmth clashed with the general state of decay and apathy exhibited by the look of their house. What's striking is not that they own very few things: It's that all of them are lying around in the dirt. by: santavictoriaeste Views[340] In a humble shack, an elder sits quietly on the side, watching some kids play while the women knit. I was glued to his expression for a while before I took a quick picture and approached him. by: santavictoriaeste Views[331]
