My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Madagascar | Friday, December 28, 2012 | 5 photos

I am a graduate student in Biology and an amateur photographer from Quebec, Canada. My passion for photography began in 2009 while travelling across Europe. Since then, academic work has given me the immense privilege to travel from the captivating island of Madagascar to the wild and infinite Great North of Quebec, providing me with exciting photo opportunities. Looking back, I’m fascinated about how each new trip makes my photography evolve, and how in turn photography shapes my vision of the world.
As a biologist, I am of course very attracted to the natural world as an endless source of photogenic subjects. When I travel, I extend my scope to people, architecture, food, etc. to bring back a faithful portrait of the place. I look upon all subjects with a curious and compassionate eye, and I think that is what gives my best pictures their spark of life.
I see this scholarship as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take my skills to a new level I could not reach without help and advice. I think photography is wonderfully easy to reconcile with my first professional aim, and I hope someday to raise awareness about the environmental issues I study by showing the wonders at stake.
