Possibly the most iconic animals of Madagascar, lemurs are nonetheless mysterious and elusive creatures, with some new species still being discovered today. However, most populations are sinking fast due to habitat destruction.

There are 18 ethnic groups native to Madagascar, each having their own beliefs and livelihoods. Those Sakalava men are going home after a long day’s work in the fields.

The story of Madagascar is one of beauty and diversity, but also of incessant struggle through environmental and economic crises. Ultimately, conservation and education must go hand in hand. Those carefree children hold the future of their homeland in their hands, and their realising how extraordinary it is will be the strongest driver of change. Happy ending? Time will tell.
