My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Photography is the purest depiction of reality through art. At an early age, I experimented with my mom’s Nikkormat and it sparked my interest. I would sit and study the captivating photos of Nat Geo to understand what makes a perfect shot and my passion for the art flourished.
This also stirred my curiosity with foreign landscapes, cultures and sense of adventure. It was my goal to travel to South America and I worked hard to make it happen. Traveling from Patagonia northward to Ecuador allowed me varied opportunities to practice with the camera. I strive to capture my observations through the camera, attempting to improve with every shot I take. It is a difficult task to portray the beauty of reality through a lens.
In college, I combined my passions for travel and photography by studying geography and photojournalism with a goal of becoming a travel photographer. This scholarship with Jason's mentoring would provide invaluable skills to allow me to follow my aspirations.
My grandfather was stationed in Greenland during WWII and I have grown up listening to his stories. Seeing the land he talked about so vividly would fulfill another lifelong dream.
