Gutka and Pan Masala, equivalents of tobacco, are commonly sold in packets and chewed wrapped in betel leaves. Although both are recently banned in many parts of India, it is still legal in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Many men come from the countryside looking for a way to support their families. An auto rickshaw driver may profit 300 Rupees, or about $5.50, during a 12-hour day.

Although this little girl is not yet old enough, more than 90% of city children living below the poverty line are able to attend school. As India's economy expands, more of the poorest families are choosing to send children to low-cost private schools in hopes of helping them escape poverty.
