After nine days in the chaos of Bangkok we have started on our journey to Cambodia, taking in the beaches and islands of Thailand's south east gulf coast. After a long day of travel yesterday involving a six hour bus journey to Trat, followed by two tuk tuk journeys, a ferry and a taxi we finally got to Ko Chang island around 5pm. Thankfully our bus had a toilet as it didn't stop along the way and the ferry crossing was so smooth it 'was like a millpond'!
On arriving on Ko Chang all of the travel was quickly forgotten, replaced by the welcome sight of palm trees, beaches and a dark blue sea. The taxi drive to our accomodation climbed through steep jungle roads, showing us great views out over the ocean, as well as introducing us to monkeys in the trees.
Our accomodation here is a small grass beach hut, 100 metres away from the beach and close to some ocean front bars - perfect. The hut itself has enough room for a double bed in one room and a shower and toliet in the other. We only have a cold shower but frankly thats fine with us as it is pretty humid and hot and we only have a fan in our bedroom. Other mod cons include a small deck and a deck chair! :)
During our next few days here we plan to enjoy being close to a beach again, go treking through some of the jungle and also hire kayaks to explore the near by islands and shoreline. We are both wondering if four days is enough but we will be staying on plenty of islands and beaches over the next week or so, so we will continue on...hopefully they are all as nice as this :)
