The City of Stories "The African rain will fall and wash away all my tears" - Johnny Clegg (the other kind of African JC)

My Scholarship entry - I am Siyamthanda

South Africa | Friday, October 24, 2014 | 5 photos

This story of Siya and her life as a child affected by HIV is a one that rang close to my heart the more I got to know her. I want to do justice to the people/places I am shooting;I want my photos to make people feel something, like when you read a part in your book twice.I just graduated in April! Since then I've been traveling and working in odd pub jobs around England(cleaning bathrooms even!)& moving on to Amsterdam in 3 weeks!Travel to me is an opportunity to wander,to get lost & in doing so-finding yourself over and over again.
I'm very bad at sitting still, and very good at adapting to being outside my comfort zone.
I stumbled on photography at University and thank God I did as I found what it means to truly love something in life. Taking photos for me is all about observation. It truly has very little to do with what you see and more to do with how you see them.
My favourite thing in the world is to meet people in new(or old)places, listen to them, and capture something about them that would ordinarily go unnoticed.
I would put everything I have into this opportunity, and hope it would be a step in becoming a travel photographer, keep me out of those kitchens and toilets! ;)
