My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I want a life in photography, for such a life would surely be a great one.
I received my first camera when I was quite young; a simple point-and-shoot film camera. I was so naïve that I opened the back to show my nanna that it had film in it.
In high school I found a book “Off the Rails” by two Australian adventurers, Tim Cope and Chris Hatherley. Their journey from Moscow to Beijing was captivating. I thought, there is something fantastically perverse about braving the pre-dawn chill, or travelling great distances and being rewarded with amazing images. Their adventure always excites me, and I have always wanted to pass on that excitement to others through my own stories and images.
I have a design degree in Photography and Situated Media that taught me to think conceptually about photography and context. Now I am undertaking a photography certificate at a technical college, which is teaching me to think commercially. But all I have learnt is largely theoretical, and I lack the practical hands-on approach needed to develop a mature aesthetic and narrative style.
I take every learning opportunity as a chance to expand my skills and myself. Challenge me, and see what I can do.
