My Scholarship entry - Lost photography

My photography is lost.
It is lost not because it is gone forever; it is lost because it does not know where to go next.
I have worked in local media for 3 years. Some friends and coworkers call me a photographer. But if you spend most of your time at the desk looking at images and taking none of them, you’re not a photographer.
I’m not a photographer.
I’ve been a web producer for 2 years. I can count the times I’ve gone out on photo assignments for work with my fingers and toes. My work involves extremely little photography and more on curation and text editing: when I check the wires and stringer emails for needed pics, I always wonder if I’ll ever get to take them myself. None of the gear I have ever used were mine; either I borrow my father’s or my friends’ hobby gear or I use the office’s outdated 350D and non-IS kit lens.
But I didn’t mind, as long as I get to shoot.
At least that’s what I used to think.
My photography is lost, and I can’t seem to find the way on my own. Maybe I need tips, a real mentor, a gentle push from people who have gone through this thick forest of confusion to succeed
Maybe, with this scholarship, me and my photography won’t be lost anymore.
