Freshly-caught fish are dried for a day at Diurra, a seaside fishing village in Batanes.

Lola Florestida Estrella, 85, lives in a 125-year-old stone house, the oldest of its kind in Batanes since it survived a strong earthquake in 1918.

Two fishing boats ferry a jeepney (a common passenger vehicle) to Sabtang Island in Batanes, The precarious chartered transport costs Php6000 (or approximately US$147) for a one-way trip from nearby Batan Island and has been a local method of transporting vehicles like vans and ambulances between the two northern islands in the province, crossing the vast waters where South China Sea and Pacific Ocean meet.
