The Curonian Spit

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Friday, October 15, 2010 | 5 photos

First of all I would like to take opportunity to say few words about a set of my photos presented for this competition. All off them were made on the Curonian Spit, a nature perl of my native country Lithuania. The Curonian Spit is a narrow sand peninsula of 98 km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. The northern 52 km long stretch of the Curonian Spit peninsula belongs to Lithuania, while the rest is part of the Russia. This is a fragile nature, which requests a considerable and constant attention. In the year 2000, the Curonian Spit was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the most beautiful and unique landscapes of Europe.

Pictures were taken with pinhole camera and 120 format film was used.

I try my chances in this competition as I see it like opportunity to start career in travel photography. I love to travel, to visit new countries, to meet local people, to learn about their culture, traditions, history, to see diference of nature. And I would like to learn to show all of his through my pictures.

As about photography it became my life style. I prefer analog camera, but also take pictures with digital. Basic photography knowledge I got in design school and university. Lots of practice and attraction to photography gave much to self education too.
