You reach this spectacular view after coming out of a series of darker tunnels. Though there is always natural light, the urge to swim quickly 'towards the light' is strong.

On the stunning Yucatán Peninsular of Mexico, numerous Cenotes, or sinkholes, reveal underground pools of freshwater and caverns to explore. This ladder is at the Cenote Calavera, nicknamed 'The Temple of Doom' in Tulum. Most people take the 3m plunge to enter the water, but for some, this ladder is more appealing.

Technically a cavern, most cenotes do not require a Cave Certification. This sign (and the quickening darkness) was enough to give me the jitters, which made it difficult to point my torch and hold the camera steady!
