RebeccaRenee This is a journal of my trip to Peru. Other than an overnight stay in Canada, I have never been out of the US. This will be the trip of my life....so far!

Only Three Weeks to go!

USA | Sunday, 24 August 2008 | Views [581]

I don't know what I was thinking with my first entry where I said "only a few more details and I'm ready to go!" HA!

I packed my bag for the first time the other day, I'm really glad I did. I repacked it tonight but this time I packed EVERYTHING that's going. It's 26 pounds fully loaded.

I have the smaller pack loaded to be my carry-on on the plane. It's got the bare essentials that I will have to live with if something happens to my big pack. God forbid because I'm not taking much as it is. I really hope I don't have to live without any of it!

One thing I can't fit in my carry-on is my hiking boots. I will be pretty miserable on this trip if I don't have those but with the way airport security is, I'm worried about wearing them and having to take them off and holding up the line.....They won't be very comfortable on a 16 hour plane ride either. I'm going to keep thinking about this.

So here's the list:

  • Dr. Bronners (soap, toothpaste, shampoo all in one)
  • Sunscreen (50 proof)
  • 100% Deet bug juice (what a tradeoff)
  • Sunscreen lip balm
  • 2 money belts
  • Perscription for Cipro (just in case I get a stomach bug)
  • Headlamp
  • Pen, pencil, notebook
  • Contacts, glasses, eye drops, solution
  • First aid kit
  • Itinerary, flight details, travel insurance papers, passport, money
  • MP3 player
  • Step down converter (so I can charge my camera battery and MP3 player)
  • 2 pair pants
  • 2 pair shorts
  • 1 pair of capris
  • 1 tank top
  • 3 tshirts
  • 1 long sleeve tshirt
  • 1 long sleeve button up shirt
  • ear cuff and gloves
  • long johns
  • 1 fleece jacket
  • 4 pairs of wool hiking socks
  • sleeping mat
  • sleeping bag
  • travel pillow
  • travel towel
  • swimsuit
  • hiking boots
  • sport sandals
  • large pack
  • camelback day pack
  • raincoat
  • camera
  • floppy sun hat

I think that's it. The small pack goes inside the big pack once I'm at my destination.

I'm excited and nervous. I've never done anything like this. It's going to be amazing I'm sure.
