Crickets in Chiang Rai - 15th May 2009

THAILAND | Monday, 18 May 2009 | Views [486]

So I woke up in the morning and decided I was definitely going to go to Chiang Rai.

I checked out of the hostel and caught a lift with them to the bus station. I was going to walk but it was pouring with rain!

Got to the Chiang Mai Arcade bus station at just after 11 and there wasn't a spare seat until the 14.15 bus! So I had to wait around for 3 hours! Caught up on quite a bit of reading and listening to podcasts.

The bus took about 3 hours and cost 132B. Arrived in Chiang Rai and got a bus to the old bus station which is in the city centre. The Canadians are still in Chiang Rai for one night and staying at a guest house called Baan Bua. It was really nice actually and only 200B for a room.

We decided to go out to the night market and Alex was very keen to eat some of the local insects. (Geek note, the edible bug industry in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia is the same as the Pizza industry)

They had met a really nice Kiwi girl called Shona who came out with us. She is also planning to go to Laos so we decided to go together and make a plan in the morning.

Back at the hostel there were lots of travellers from all over the world, Oz, Taiwan, Holland, Canada, French, Japanese, Italian. British and Kiwi. We played the biggest game of 'I have Never'! We were up drinking until about 1.30 when the security guard came and told us we were all being too loud!!

Love to all x
