    In the land of spirituality, I realized how a monastery plays a central role for those who seek monastic life. It accepts so many people from different stages of their lives and provides resources, environment and discourse which help them achieve a common goal of enlightenment through Buddhist sensitivities. It certainly is a symbol of life, symbol of hard work, persistence and ability to aspire. by: rajat Views[211] Yonden Sangpo is one of the most experienced monks in the Monastery. He left his regular job and married life to become a monk. “There are no set rules to follow Buddhism. It is a process to achieve inner peace which can be done by training your mind through spiritual practice.” To him, meditating minds are like mountains. Still. Formidable in face of strong winds. Vulnerable to time. Changing every moment in accordance with nature. by: rajat Views[227] Training the mind to focus and concentrate is an individual affair. They walk together on their journey towards the universal truth through the contours of mind just like they together create the continents, oceans and mountains on this mandala; but the path taken by each is unique and different, filled by the shades and hues of different struggles and experiences. by: rajat Views[214] At prayer wheels, Jampa was a different person. The child in him seemed to collide with the monk he is destined to become. The look on his face was a mix of freedom, joy and inquisitiveness. He compelled me to come forward and join him. “Rotate them clockwise every time you see them. It will make your mind peaceful and pleasant.” by: rajat Views[229] Meet Jampa, age 10, the youngest monk at Thikse. After his father’s death in a road accident, his mother couldn’t afford his studies and thus started his journey as Buddhist monk. He loves to play football and before coming here he wanted to be a pilot, now he wants to become a spiritual leader and teacher. His English speaking abilities made me connect with him instantly.
