My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

The turning point for me came at the age of 8, when I got my first camera during a trip to New Mexico. I fell in love with the camera and the way I could frame the world in any way of my choosing. Eventually, it became the vehicle through which I could engage with the people around me and share their stories.
That idea began to take shape when I documented the daily life of a home for boys with autism. By capturing specific moments in their lives, I was able to understand what life looked like from their perspective. I could take something from that instant and form it into something that could potentially change someone’s life. This experience fueled my passion to continue documenting the lives of others. Ultimately, my photography is about finding the magic in those raw moments and capturing something that outlasts time.
I’ve devoted much of my life to photography since those days in New Mexico with my first camera. Since that time, I have never waivered from my dream of becoming a National Geographic photographer. I want to continue to explore and learn about the world through my lens and would love the opportunity to learn from Jason Edwards.
