My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Writing about why winning this scholarship is important for me isn’t a difficult task. I didn’t study photography or graphic design –I work as accountant! That’s what I studied in the college, as it’s a good choice considering the conditions of the labor market here.
However, life never stops teaching and it always brings me back to what I’m really passionate about. People should spend their time doing what can make them grow and evolve as fulfilled individuals. By doing that each person can be a better human being and contribute to the world for it to positively evolve as well. That’s what improving my photography skills would mean for me.
Photography is an extremely powerful way of communication. It can work as a means to tell news without words, disseminate information about cultures and places and express the infinite amount of emotions this universe can inspire.
Even though I want to go deeper into several types of photography, I especially enjoy travel and nature photography. I’m always stimulated by the great biodiversity my country has –which I love– and criticize the way the unplanned urban development has negatively affected it. I’ve traveled to some places inside my country, spent hours researching and even bought some live butterfly pupae just with the purpose of making pictures.
I’ve done all that with a point-and-shoot camera though! I’m very excited because I’m about to buy my first SRL camera.
I’m extremely interested in developing my own career in photography. I know I can learn a lot from this project and I’m not only willing to do it, but I would also be grateful for a lifetime if I am selected to do it. This learning opportunity means one step forward to access all that knowledge and practice I’m so enthusiastic to reach.
