MOROCCO | Saturday, 3 October 2009 | Views [319]

First impressions have changed and now feel comfortable! We had tajine meals and a local beer at our hotel restaurant last night, very authentic on brass tables, live music a guy playing a guitar type instrument, an oud? And singing. Met other people from tour, Aussies & Kiwis. Had a great sleep, tiniest hotel room with minature bathroom (no squatting yet!). Today, Friday went on local tour arround huge Mosque(bigggest outside Mecca) beautiful building took 6 years to build. Would have taken Aussies/Kiwis probably 20! Truly magnificent builng and work- huge doors made of titanium, dearer than gold, and brass. Visited the beach and wealthy tourist area, old medina was fascinating, past Kings palace, embassies then not that far away the slum areas all with satelite dishes of course looked by Beirut- great contrasts within city- a lot is like the smaller streets of Paris- all interesting. You take yr life in yr hands crossing the road and having to remember they drive on opposite side so looking left etc. Found our way to a supermkt with help of unofficial guide who u then pay', but at least we got there. Everything shuts 1-4pm. Heard them calling to prayer at the mosques this am., happens 5 times a day. Have to add how goodlooking the men are and charming or Mike would be disappointed. Time for our siesta. ( I have my gmail operating heatherelley@gmail.com if u need to contact us, Ally has my mobile but we have Mikes on roaming)
