After arriving on a pretty much sleepless 8 hour flight from Brisbane we are still quite tired. The humidity of Singapore was quite overwhelming even tho we hail from Qld, at least it wasn't raining which is very common here and all the gardens and trees etc are so so green and tropical and colouful. Hopped on an explorer type bus and did a couple of different city circuits including seeing the Singapore Flyer (which we will do next time)and getting off at Orchard Road and I will have to come back for the shopping- looks inviting! The Singapore Grand Prix finished yesterday so bits of grandstands and diversions still in place. Ended up at our destination we were aiming for which was Raffles for late lunch. Unfortunately they took one look at our travel clothes and told us the Tiffin Room was booked today & tomorrow! However we had a great curry at their Empire Cafe- beautiful old building and gorgeous grounds right in the middle of the city. Great service too. In fact all people friendly and courteous. Back to the hotel for a shower and sleep and woken by a 7.6 earthquake swaying and we're on the 11th floor!! Not sure quite what was happening looking out the windows people across the road were running down fire exits; other people in our hallway were dithering like us- however Mike had a shower and we had coffee and cake and made an early exit to the airport which is not highrise- so here we are! Boarding for Dubai/Casablanca in 4 hours (1.40am local time) we love these late flights- actually they are lots less crowded and we spread out over 4 seats! Hopefully same again tonight - 2 x 8 hours approx.
Hey the pedestrian crossings here count down the number of seconds left to cross - Above the 'green man' there is a LARGE red number ticking away- very regimented and clean city.Everything is in English so all good.
