So i'm sitting in a cafe, sipping ice coffee, sitting with my mac updating a blog...i feel like such a hipster! Anyway, if surfers was awesome, Byron is just beyond...!!!
i don't think there are any words to describe it..it's a mix between the 70s, australian laid back attitude, a sense of community and just general happiness! There's always people out and about, or someone playing music somewhere, and the people are just soooo nice and approachable ...it feels like a big village of awesome! The most easterly point of australia is just a short walk away and that is where i saw my first wallaby (yaaaay!!). The first night i was here, on my way back to the hostel at 4am i tried convincing everyone that we should go watch the solar eclipse that same morning at 7.30 (this was after having met an Afghani busker who couldn't play music or sing, and having stopped random people in the street to try to convince them to play something on his guitar so we could all sing along). Anyway... my persuasion skills seemed to work, until 7am came round and i was the only one who was awake...so i went to the beach to see it but i think i missed it by 10 minutes... moral of the story: never trust Prisca's drunken ideas...even if you're Prisca.
Yesterday i took a short day trip to Murwillumbah (gotta love the name!!) which is where i might be staying for the next month or so, helping out in a small cinema. I was in the car with a family friend and she decided to pick up a hitchhiker who told us about some crazy dreams that he'd had about a stone that he had to dig up which contained images of ancient egyptians...or something along those lines. He knew so many "legends" about the area: apparently australia is home to the most ancient egyptian hieroglyphs... gotta love it :)
By the way, dearest Edinburgh pub quiz team mates... yesterday i finally won a pub quiz - first prize $50 bar tab. i thought of all of you xxxx :)
Hugs to all, will send postcards soon!
