My Scholarship entry - Once upon a time in India

India | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos

A photograph expands a moment. It freezes it, shares it, allows us to see it in a different way, the passage of time not there to distract us.

It is a beautiful world. Immensely connected, still wildly different in all corners. It is such a privilege to be able see that.

What draws me to photography is the telling of stories or the moods of places, that maybe it is impossible to tell with words. I believe in photography as an agent for education, for peace and for change and as something that generates respect for diversity.

It is a dream to be able to create powerful, beautiful and evocative essays. To write with light, as they say.

The experience of mentorship by Jason, a photographer working in the field, is far beyond anything that can be achieved from books. I would cherish the opportunity to learn this way, with the goal of one day using photography as both as a trade and an art.
