My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Japan | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
I actually found my passion for photography after I started backpacking, when I realised I must document this important part of my life and so set upon improving my photography.
This however was just the start and I realised that photography is a bit like marriage, I can't just do it and expect that to be it. I need to constantly work at it with all my heart and keep the standard high and look for opportunities to improve and shine everywhere.
I love travel and feel photography accompanies this so well that I desire to make it a more central part of my life and for it to have a genuinely positive impact on the world. To inspire people to open their eyes, click on a donate button and feel that they too can change the world.
On March 11th 2011 I was in Fukushima, Japan, when it was hit by the earthquake and tsunami that caused the devastation seen in my photo's for this competition. I felt the need for action, even 2 years later I am still doing this with my photography.
Feeling helpless is part of the process of going through a earthquake, taking photos is one way for me to deal with that helplessness and to connect the world to my feelings at the time they were taken.
