My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
South Africa | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
As a little girl I dreamt of seeing the world. I wanted to capture the spirit, movement, and beauty. I studied photography in college and learned the skills of composition, lighting, vision and how to tell a narrative.
I learned what it means to serve my community, follow my passions, and take pictures of the progress through a year mentoring teenagers, living on a Reservation, teaching in a township in South Africa and working at an orphanage.
Recently I decided to move abroad. March fifth marks the end of my contract in South Korea and a turning point in my life. I will leave to travel indefinitely, camera in hand.
My experiences have taught me that I don’t just want to capture the beauty of the world; I want to live among it, learn from it and share it. Everyday I work to combine my photography with my passion for understanding people, working the right angle, capturing their personality and telling about their life.
The ability to work with and be taught by Jason Edwards would alter my life forever. I couldn’t imagine a better initiation to this new stage of my life than being mentored by one of the best.
