This morning I cycled out to the coastal Lincoln National Park and walked up Stamford Hill (named after a village in Matthew Flinders' homeland Lincolnshire, England) which has stunning views over Boston Bay, Boston Island and the National Park.
Matthew Flinders took up a career at sea at the age of 15 and in 1801 was given command of the ship The Investigator. He was the first to circumnavigate Australia and with the detailed charts he produced, settlement of the south coast of Australia followed.
On the way back I rode along the Investigator Trail, a gravel track which provided good shade and was close to the water. Today was a 40km round trip on the bike plus a 2 hour bushwalk.
Tonight I learned one of the many songs written by Linda, about the grain harvest time on the Eyre Peninsula, now so meaningful after my recent harvesting experience.
