From Cross River with Love

I had the good fortune of spending time in Cross River state for my national service. I was posted to Obanliku local government, home to the Obudu Cattle Ranch. When you think about the Ranch, think beauty, think nature, think God. It is a sight to behold for oneself, not something that can be explained or described. Located on a mountain top, and surrounded by other mountains, you can either go up by road or by the cable car. I went by road the first time. The journey was about 11km. It was amazing. One minute I was looking up at a mountain from below, the next minute I was on same level with it. It was WOW. The second time, I used the cable car. Now that’s another experience entirely. This time I get to look down and see the artistic design of a creator.
On getting to the mountain top, we (I went with a friend) introduced ourselves as corps members and we were giving a discount and a guide to give us a tour. Our first point of call was the canopy walkway in the protected forest area. The height is same with that of a five storey building. Our guide shared with us that grown men have cried and turned back never completing the walk. I did complete it though after much screaming and encouragement. This walkway leads to a tree house where someone can study the animals in the forest. Our next stop was to the artificial waterfall. The natural waterfall was located faraway and with the limited time at hand, we couldn’t afford to visit it that day. Of all the buildings on the ranch, I was enamored most with the African hut; the cheapest lodge on the ranch though but most beautiful. The African style got me attracted. At the base of the hills lies a world class water park with state of art swimming facilities and water slides. The ranch also boasts of a fully equipped gym, tennis courts, hotel, and a golf course
The best time to visit is November. The ranch holds its annual mountain race for energetic people from across Nigeria and internationally, with cash prizes for different categories. Also, the flowers are in bloom and the sky is clear. The weather is ideal for trekking over the high ground and one can enjoy the extensive views that stretch out across the plateau.
See, I can’t do much justice describing the resort; it is something one has to see for oneself. It is a perfect honey moon spot. The tranquility and ambiance would be perfect for newly married couples to spend time alone. I left there with a vow to return on a photography expedition.
