So I forgot to write that while in Luang Prabang, we got up early at 5:15 am to see the Giving of Alms to the monks. So we got up and it was really nice because these two women had cooked up a really big amount of sticky rice to give to the monks as they walked past, and they asked if we wanted to also have some rice to give! So we were able to particpiate too!
The women gave us all a bamboo container with the sticky rice in it, so that as the monks walked past, the other women, Cathrine and I knelt down on the road and put little bits of sticky rice in their bowls, and the guys were able to stand and do the same thing (I guess the patriarchy also exists in Buddhism).
It was really nice though to be able to participate and for the Lao women to invite us to participate instead of just watch.
