My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

As we enter the courtyard of a temple in Pashupatinath in Kathmandu, my attention is drawn to an old man who is sitting in the sun, in the middle of the courtyard.

He is sitting indian style and smoking a cigarette. In front of him lies a pack of smokes and a box of matches.

He looks to be sitting on a mat made of straw, which protects his bare feet and legs from the blistering cement.

I’m captured by his fluid and tranquil movements. He gives off a sense of calmness.

I’m not sure who he is, but to me he embodies the spirit of a holy man. He has an air of holiness around him.
