My Scholarship entry - Life in the bateyes of Dominican Republic

Two women washing clothes by hand next to previously donated  washing machines. The scene seemed odd, and I wondered why they were not using the appliances. I later learned they simply could not, as the machines were not adapted to their living conditions.
