Two women washing clothes by hand next to previously donated washing machines. The scene seemed odd, and I wondered why they were not using the appliances. I later learned they simply could not, as the machines were not adapted to their living conditions.

She sat quietly next to the group of tourists to listen to the conversations. Her eyes were sad and meaningful, and her attitude timid but assertive. She seemed to know so much, yet eager to learn even more.

The inhabitants of the host country were gathered outside sharing a moment together. I remember feeling like an unwanted guest, a creature part of a herd of loud animals with hoofs so big they could destroy everything they stepped on, a group of unjustly privileged human species confronted to a similar reality they face back home: homelessness. This moment seemed to summarize all I had ever learned on inequality, except this time it had a face.
