A raised railway towering over a lake and bridge on a smoggy day in a north Tianjin park. The traditional Chinese style arched bridge is dominated by the modern overbearing infrastructure. The picture reflects a lot of the conflicts China has between preserving its culture and striving for development.

Men on bicycles cycling cross a junction with the large ‘Tianjin Eye’ looming in the background. This picture has elements of the old and new coexisting and a feeling of movement. Can China manage to move in a direction that successfully balances traditional values and the demands of a newly industrialised country?

As a result of the cultural revolution in china a lot of ancient artefacts were lost. China has five hundred years of history and cultural wisdom to share with the world but the state of revolution the country faced has discouraged people from looking into its past.
